Canopus

Your local AI agent

On the App Store

Your local AI agent, on your own PC or server

Canopus is an interface, not an AI service. It gives the AI you run on your own PC or server a proper home on iPhone and iPad: streaming replies, voice mode, attachments, exact edits, a model and settings for every kind of media, and a passcode lock. Point it at a server that speaks the Canopus API, and the app does the rest. We do not run a backend for it, and we never see what passes between the app and yours.

Canopus: Ask anything, and get clear, formatted answers

What it does

Everything in the app, in plain terms.

  • Your server, your models

Enter your server address once in Settings and choose from the models it offers, per chat. Every request goes there and nowhere else.

  • An agent that gets things done

Attach a photo, a video, a PDF or a voice recording, and replies stream in as Markdown. The agent can search the web, read pages, and make images, videos, music and speech when your server offers them. Export any conversation as PDF or Markdown.

  • Voice mode

Tap the orb and talk. Your server turns your words into text, the agent answers out loud in the voice you pick, and it stops when you interrupt. Everything said lands in the conversation.

  • Every model, every setting

Pick the model each kind of media uses and set what your server offers for it. Leave a setting on Ask and the agent asks you in the chat first. When your server adds a model or a setting, it shows up without an app update.

  • Exact edits

Ask the agent to trim a video, crop or rotate a photo, change the speed or frame rate, drop the sound or keep only the sound, take a still or convert a file. No AI guesswork: these edits are exact.

  • Kept on your device, locked if you like

History and media live encrypted on your device and stay out of iCloud backup. Lock the app behind a passcode with Face ID, and erase it all in one tap.

  • Eight themes

Night Sea, Ink, Midnight, Iris, Cobalt, Berry, Mono and Green, each in light, dark or following the system.

Bring your own server

Canopus is just the interface.

It needs a server you run yourself, on a PC at home or anywhere else, that answers a handful of HTTP requests. The API reference lists every request the app makes and every response it expects, so you can build one with whatever models you like. We do not provide a server, or support for running one.

Where your data lives

No mystery about it.

Your conversations and media are stored on your device in an encrypted database that is excluded from iCloud backup. When you send a message, the app sends it to the server address you entered in Settings, and to nothing else. That server belongs to you or to whoever you chose to trust, not to us. Canopus has no account and no analytics. Canopus Pro, which adds image, video and audio replies and voice mode, is an optional purchase through the App Store: Apple handles the payment, we never see your payment details, and RevenueCat keeps an anonymous record of whether Pro is active. The free version shows small banners for our other apps.
